08/12/2009 – Christmas Donation to Para Meadows School

Continuing on from our initiative last year, Pillar sent out Christmas e-cards instead of paper cards to our clients and suppliers. The savings achieved from this environmentally responsible action were donated to Para Meadows School in North Wollongong, a special school for children with disabilities. The school was able to purchase several voice output devices and step-by-step communicators for the children to use.

19/03/2009 - Success for Pillar golf team at NSW Corporate Games

Congratulations to Steve Smith, Robert Morton, Guthrie Amaru and Greg Moynihan who represented Pillar in golf at the NSW Corporate Games held in Sydney from 19th-22nd March.

Special congratulations to Steve Smith and Guthrie Amaru who came 1st and 3rd respectively in the men’s Social Golf competition which attracted over 400 participants!

17/12/2008 - Staff Christmas Donation

For the FSS Member Services team, Christmas literally went to the dogs!  This innovative team took the Secret Santa concept a step further – instead of buying Secret Santa presents for each other, team members made a donation and nominated a chosen charity.  The names of the charities were put into a hat and the lucky charity drawn was the RSPCA.

09/12/2008 - No Christmas Cards From Pillar

Pillar CEO, Peter Beck today presented a cheque for $1,500 to the Wollongong Hospital Children’s Ward. In presenting the cheque to Julie Haines, Clinical Nurse Specialist at the hospital, Peter said “Christmas is a time for giving and a particularly special time for children.  We decided that instead of buying and posting paper Christmas cards this year, we would design and send our own e-cards and donate the savings to the Children’s Ward at Wollongong Hospital.  This initiative also best reflects Pillar’s sustainability objectives.”

26/09/2008 - Pillar No.1 in Red Cross Challenge!

The Red Cross Club Red program is designed for people in business, community and youth groups to get together and do something special by regularly donating blood. In this inaugural year of the program, we are very proud to announce that Pillar is the winner of the Club Red challenge for the Illawarra region!  Pillar staff made a total of 146 donations and were competing against 30 other organisations. Thank you and congratulations to staff who participated in this vitally important community program.

20/09/2008 - Pillar Staff Walk In Relay For Life

Beaton Park Wollongong was abuzz with activity over the weekend of 20th and 21st September as 135 teams took part in the annual Relay For Life organised by the Cancer Council of NSW. A team of 32 walkers from Pillar participated in this important community event to raise funds for cancer research and support services.  The Pillar team raised a total of $4,450 through staff and company contributions. Thank you and congratulations to all staff who participated in this year’s Relay For Life.

19/08/2008 - Pillar Sponsors Woolyungah for the National Indigenous Games

Pillar has donated $1,500 to Wollongong University’s Woolyungah Indigenous Centre to send a team of students to the 13th National Indigenous Tertiary Education Student Games (NITESG). Nyssa Murray (centre), who is currently undertaking a National Indigenous Cadetship Program with Pillar, is a member of the Woolyungah team

Representatives from the Centre, Nyssa Murray and Rob Evitt, met with Pillar CEO Peter Beck to accept the cheque.

Pillar contributes $7,000 to the social club

Pillar has contributed $7,000 to the Pillar Social Club, in a presentation made by CEO Peter Beck to representatives of the Social Club on 12th August.

Peter thanked the Social Club for their hard work and commitment and spoke about the importance of having a presence in the community and within the workplace.

The Golf Tournament was a chance for golf enthusiasts in the superannuation industry to come together for a round of golf and at the same time, support a worthy cause.

04/11/2007 - MS Sydney to Gong Bike Ride

Pillar was proud to co-sponsor a team of 15 riders in the 26th Annual MS Sydney to Gong Bike Ride.  Team riders raised over $1,400 for MS Australia which supports people in our community suffering from multiple sclerosis.

12/04/2007 – Pillar supports The Inspire Foundation

Manly Golf Club was the venue for this year’s Super Review Charity Golf Tournament and Pillar was once again a proud sponsor of the event. The Inspire Foundation was formed in 1996 in response to escalating rates of youth suicide.  Much needed funds were raised at this event to help The Inspire Foundation continue supporting kids in need.

23/02/2007 - Pillar hosts UniVative Illawarra students

During the month of February, Pillar was host to 2 teams of students from the University of Wollongong as part of its UniVative Illawarra program. The students were given 3 weeks to create an innovative solution to a business issue, culminating in a presentation and business report to Pillar management.

31/01/2007 - TVs for Wollongong Hospital

Staff from Pillar’s Social Club today presented a cheque for $2,400 to the Children’s Ward at Wollongong Hospital for eight new television sets to be installed. Staff raised $1,200 at a “Shop Till You Drop” shopping event and this amount was matched by Pillar, bringing the total to $2,400.

18/11/2006 – Cancer Council Relay For Life

A team of 45 dedicated walkers from Pillar took turns to walk around Beaton Park and raised over $9,000 for the NSW Cancer Council. The Pillar team was the Number 1 fundraiser in the Illawarra region - what a great effort! Pillar walkers were cheered on by supporters in the Pillar marquee who kept up a supply of drinks and refreshments for the team.

05/11/2006 – MS Sydney to Gong Bike Ride

Pillar was proud to co-sponsor a team of 20 riders from Pillar, Print Super and Synchronised Software in the 25th MS Sydney to Gong Bike Ride. This annual event is held to raise money and awareness of those people who suffer from multiple sclerosis. Team riders, who came from Coniston, Sydney and Melbourne, raised over $5,000 through sponsorships and donations for this very worthwhile cause. Despite the difficult weather conditions, all riders made it to the finish line for a well earned drink and barbecue at the Pillar marquee.

15/08/2006 – Young Achievement Australia business program

Local Illawarra students taking part in the Young Achievement Australia business program experienced first-hand Pillar’s support for its community.  Pillar’s CEO Peter Cormack and GM Human Resources Mandy Varley-Mason attended a workshop at the Illawarra Yacht Club, providing students with valuable business advice.

15/07/2006 – Work experience students at Pillar

Pillar continues to support the local Illawarra community by hosting 6 work experience students from the University of Wollongong in their Employment Experience Program. These students spent their 4-week semester break at Pillar gaining work experience relevant to their fields of study.

Showing continued support for our community, Pillar was proud to be a Silver Sponsor of the 2nd Super Review Charity Golf Tournament, held at Roseville Golf Club.  This event raised much needed funds for Mission Australia, in particular for their Triple Care Farm project.
