Congratulations to Pillar employee, John Williams from the E-Business/Employer Services team for his recent win at the International Masters Hockey Tournament held in Hong Kong from 24th to 31st October. John represented Australia in the Over 55 side (aptly named the Vintage Masters for the amount of red wine they consume!) and after 5 gruelling games, came home with the silver medal! Well done John!

The SuperRatings Day of Confrontation & Fund of the Year Awards were held at Peninsula Docklands in Melbourne on 13 October 2009. Pillar was a major sponsor of the event which featured several high-profile speakers including Peter Costello, Chris Bowen and Stephen Mayne. Pillar took the opportunity to host our client CEOs at our corporate table.

The inaugural AIST Superannuation Administration Symposium was held at the Hotel Windsor in Melbourne on 20 August 2009. Pillar was proud to be a gold industry partner of the symposium which addressed issues specific to the superannuation administration sector.

Pillar was very proud to be a silver sponsor of the Canberra Mothers Day Classic, held along the picturesque shores of Lake Burley Griffin on Sunday, 10th May.

This event is one of Australia’s leading charity events and is organised by Women In Super, a national network of women in the superannuation and finance industries.  Since 1998, Mothers Day Classic has raised $4.4 million for the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s research programs.

Continuing on a tradition of many years, Pillar was once again the exclusive sponsor of the Conference of Major Superannuation Funds (CMSF) after dinner bar. 

The Pillar Superhero Bar was open for delegates to enjoy an informal drink after the Gala Dinner, held at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre, Queensland.

Pillar was the exclusive sponsor of the ASFA Melbourne Golf Day which was held at the Yarra Yarra Golf Club on Monday, 23rd February.  The Golf Day was a chance for Pillar to promote itself and for the golf enthusiasts in the Melbourne superannuation industry to come together for a round of golf.

Pillar was represented by Grant Sandstrom and Chris Richards who teamed up with our guests from Aon and AGEST Super to play a friendly round of golf.  Congratulations to Pillar Team 1 comprising of Grant Sandstrom (Pillar), Steven Gaffney, Tom Rogacki & Chris Jensen (all from Aon) who took out 2nd place at the event.

In a fitting finish to a gold medal-winning Paralympic campaign, Pillar employee Brendan Dowler was today awarded an Order of Australia medal in the 2009 Australia Day Honours List.

Brendan was a member of the Australian wheelchair basketball team known as the Rollers that won gold at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games.  The team’s fantastic efforts were rewarded with each Roller receiving an Order of Australia medal.

Gary comes to Pillar with over 20 years commercial experience gained from chartered accountancy, and corporate and management consulting roles.  He was an executive in the Commonwealth Bank, a director with PricewaterhouseCoopers and Chief Financial Officer of AT&T Australia.

Pillar employee, Brendan Dowler, is on his way to Beijing to represent Australia at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics. Brendan has been a regular member of the Australian Men’s Wheelchair Basketball team (nicknamed the 'Rollers') since 2001, and has played over 100 games in that time.

Since his first major tournament in 2001 he has represented Australia at two World Championships and the 2004 Athens Paralympics.

On Friday 30th November 2007, Pillar hosted the Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand at our Sydney office.  Members of the delegation, from various Thai asset management firms and fund administration service providers, were visiting Australia to learn about fund administration services and Pillar was pleased to be able to provide first hand experience and information to our visitors.

On Thursday 26th July 2007, a number of staff employed by the New South Wales Government were awarded the NSW Service Medallion. The award is in recognition of meritorious service of 40 years (or more) as an officer employed by the New South Wales Government. The Illawarra Mercury recently wrote an article about Graduates from the University of Wollongong that have successfully undertaken Graduate Programs with local businesses within the region. Adam Trevarthen, a Pillar graduate within our IT department, was selected to be interviewed by the Mercury and the article went to press on Tuesday 15th May 2007. Each year the Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA NSW) host the CEO and Young Professionals Breakfast at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour. This year twenty (20) Pillar staff attended the event. The breakfast provided a great opportunity to network with fellow employees as well as our CEO Peter Cormack. The keynote speaker was Andrew Johnson, Executive Director of the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) who discussed the challenge of social engagement and social activism in the 21st Century.

This year's Conference of Major Superannuation Funds was held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, Queensland and Pillar was once again the exclusive sponsor of the After Dinner Party. The Pillar Encore Bar was a huge success with conference delegates keen to party on after the Gala Dinner. Pillar is delighted to announce that we have been appointed by the Australian Ethical Superannuation Fund (AES) as its new administrator. This is a particularly important appointment for Pillar as it marks Pillar’s entry into the retail sector of the superannuation market.

The AES has around 10,000 members and $200 million in assets, with both accumulation and allocated pension divisions.  The initial contract term is for 5 years and is scheduled to commence towards the end of 2007.

Over 1,750 participants attended the ASFA Conference ‘Going The Distance’ at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre.  The conference is the biggest event in the superannuation industry calendar and Pillar was one of over 50 exhibitors at SuperExpo.

Pillar’s exhibition booth which reinforced our standing as a 100% Pure Admin company, served 100% pure orange juice to thirsty delegates during session breaks.

Pillar is delighted to announce that Ivy Gueco from our Contact Centre has been named the Tele-Professional of the Year 2006 at the 11th Australian Teleservices Association (ATA) national awards! The award was presented to Ivy in front of over 400 delegates on the Gold Coast on Friday, 15th September. Congratulations, Ivy for your spectacular win!
