Superannuation Fund Administrators today announce the Formation of a Superannuation Exchange Affiliation (SEA)

Australia’s largest superannuation administrators, AAS, Pillar Administration and Superpartners have come together as members of the Affiliation. The SEA will provide a leading voice on the key factors, opportunities, issues and challenges impacting administration.

Pillar is delighted to announce that CEO Peter Beck has been appointed to the Board of the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA). Peter joins the Board as a representative for service providers in the superannuation industry.

Commenting on Peter’s appointment, ASFA CEO Pauline Vamos said “Peter’s extensive experience in the superannuation industry and financial services generally, and his deep knowledge of superannuation administration, will be a great asset to the Board and benefit the ASFA community.”

Pillar announced today that it will be offering a single-issue advice software tool, enabling our super fund clients to meet the advice needs of their members.

Australian financial technology service provider decimal will supply the software solution which will allow super fund members to seek single-issue advice via their fund’s website.

In a landmark arrangement, the three administrators have agreed on a set of principles and protocols covering data and money flow for rollovers.

Congratulations to Pillar employee, Jason Gracanin from the Marketing & Business Development team who was named the Project Management Institute’s NSW Young Project Manager of the Year 2009! Not content with just winning one award, Jason was also in the final three of the overall NSW Project Manager of the Year 2009 award. Jason was nominated for his project work in the Print Super / JUST Super merger in 2008. His nomination was supported by Pillar CEO Peter Beck as well as our client, Media Super. Well done, Jason!

Congratulations to Pillar employee, John Williams from the E-Business/Employer Services team for his recent win at the International Masters Hockey Tournament held in Hong Kong from 24th to 31st October. John represented Australia in the Over 55 side (aptly named the Vintage Masters for the amount of red wine they consume!) and after 5 gruelling games, came home with the silver medal! Well done John!

The SuperRatings Day of Confrontation & Fund of the Year Awards were held at Peninsula Docklands in Melbourne on 13 October 2009. Pillar was a major sponsor of the event which featured several high-profile speakers including Peter Costello, Chris Bowen and Stephen Mayne. Pillar took the opportunity to host our client CEOs at our corporate table.

The inaugural AIST Superannuation Administration Symposium was held at the Hotel Windsor in Melbourne on 20 August 2009. Pillar was proud to be a gold industry partner of the symposium which addressed issues specific to the superannuation administration sector.

Pillar was very proud to be a silver sponsor of the Canberra Mothers Day Classic, held along the picturesque shores of Lake Burley Griffin on Sunday, 10th May.

This event is one of Australia’s leading charity events and is organised by Women In Super, a national network of women in the superannuation and finance industries.  Since 1998, Mothers Day Classic has raised $4.4 million for the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s research programs.

The Pillar Superhero Bar was open for delegates to enjoy an informal drink after the Gala Dinner, held at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre, Queensland.

Pillar was the exclusive sponsor of the ASFA Melbourne Golf Day which was held at the Yarra Yarra Golf Club on Monday, 23rd February.  The Golf Day was a chance for Pillar to promote itself and for the golf enthusiasts in the Melbourne superannuation industry to come together for a round of golf.

Pillar was represented by Grant Sandstrom and Chris Richards who teamed up with our guests from Aon and AGEST Super to play a friendly round of golf.  Congratulations to Pillar Team 1 comprising of Grant Sandstrom (Pillar), Steven Gaffney, Tom Rogacki & Chris Jensen (all from Aon) who took out 2nd place at the event.

In a fitting finish to a gold medal-winning Paralympic campaign, Pillar employee Brendan Dowler was today awarded an Order of Australia medal in the 2009 Australia Day Honours List.

Brendan was a member of the Australian wheelchair basketball team known as the Rollers that won gold at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games.  The team’s fantastic efforts were rewarded with each Roller receiving an Order of Australia medal.

Gary comes to Pillar with over 20 years commercial experience gained from chartered accountancy, and corporate and management consulting roles.  He was an executive in the Commonwealth Bank, a director with PricewaterhouseCoopers and Chief Financial Officer of AT&T Australia.

Pillar employee, Brendan Dowler, is on his way to Beijing to represent Australia at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics. Brendan has been a regular member of the Australian Men’s Wheelchair Basketball team (nicknamed the 'Rollers') since 2001, and has played over 100 games in that time.

Since his first major tournament in 2001 he has represented Australia at two World Championships and the 2004 Athens Paralympics.

The 1st of July 2008 saw JUST Super merge with Print Super to become Media Super - the industry super fund for print, media, entertainment and arts professionals.   Pillar Administration has been administering Print Super since 2002 and we are very proud to be administering the merged Media Super fund.

To mark the occasion, a cake was ordered for staff to share.  The Media Super administration team along with others involved in the merger project gathered for a celebratory morning tea and to thank team members for all the hard work they have put into the project.

The Board and Management of Pillar Administration would like to congratulate Pillar’s Chairman, Dr Col Gellatly for being awarded an AO, Officer of the General Division in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Pillar again sponsored ASFA’s Trivia Night in the football capital of Australia.  The theme “Show Your Colours” brought out the trivia and football enthusiasts from the Melbourne world of superannuation who descended on the Park Hyatt Hotel for a night of entertainment.

Congratulations to the winning team “Bardvash Conspiracy” from Superpartners (pictured left, holding their Pillar wine bags).  The “Pillars of Wisdom” team, including several guests from AGEST Super, Prime Super and Media Super, came in a respectable 6th place.
